Throughout their history spanning more than a thousand years, the Druze Unitarian community has experienced numerous challenges, transformations, and periods of uncertainty. These circumstances led the community to preserve its religious, cultural, and social distinctiveness through the practice of Taqiyya (discretion), which became an integral part of its identity and a means of safeguarding its existence and continuity.
Over time, and due to the limited availability of reliable sources and comprehensive studies about the Druze community, many misconceptions and inaccurate narratives emerged, contributing to a distorted image of the Druze or presenting them in ways that do not accurately reflect their reality.
With the rapid development of modern media and the internet, unverified information has become widely accessible and easily disseminated. This has increased the need for a credible and contemporary reference that introduces the history, culture, heritage, and human and social values of the Druze Unitarian community in an objective, balanced, and scholarly manner, without delving into the complexities of religious doctrine and theological details.
Global interest in learning about the Druze community has also grown significantly in recent years, particularly following the tragic events and hardships experienced by some Druze communities in the region during 2025. These developments have prompted researchers, academics, journalists, and interested individuals to seek accurate and comprehensive sources to better understand the Druze people, their history, and their cultural identity.
It is from this need that the importance of the Druze Identity Project emerges. The project is envisioned as an independent platform dedicated to documenting Druze heritage, strengthening the cultural and social identity of the Druze Unitarian community, and providing reliable knowledge resources for community members, researchers, and interested audiences around the world.
The project also seeks to strengthen the connection of younger generations with their history and cultural legacy, while highlighting the human, ethical, and social values for which the Druze community has long been recognized throughout its history.
